Lamine Sonko (African Dance)

TIX AVAILABLE ON THE DOOR from 6pm

TICKETS AVAILABLE ON THE DOOR TONIGHT

An ancient and urban rhythmic collision of African roots music, jazz, funk, and reggae. Praised for his compelling melodies and distinct percussive blend of infectious dance grooves, Lamine is modernising West African music while maintaining the essence of ancient sounds and stories. He skilfully integrates English, Wolof and Mandinka, to convey his powerful messages of social equality, cultural diversity and the importance of indigenous music.

Born into a musicians family in Senegal, West Africa, Lamine Sonko is one of the most celebrated African musicians Australia has to offer. This extremely talented singer, instrumentalist, dancer and percussionist brings the stage alive with the unyielding force of music and dance!

Lamine's practice is motivated by a desire to experiment in a space between the traditional and the contemporary in ways that develop new forms of musical collaboration and exchange, fusing the traditions of his culture with modern day popular music.

Lamine will be joined on stage by many of Sydney’s best known Senegalese musicians

feat. Kumar Shome, Yacou Mbaye, Jr Jones, Jean Gomis
