‘We’re In This Love Together’: Tribute to the late AL JARREAU Presented by Edo Santoni
From Edo Santoni:
"It was in my teens that I first discovered Al Jarreau, tucked away in my late Papa’s (drummer/singer) vinyl collection. It was an early recording of his produced in 1965, which documented in both a stellar and humble fashion a collection of standards still played and revered to this day. Songs such as ‘Come Rain Or Come Shine’, ‘One Note Samba’ and ‘The Masquerade Is Over’ all treated with sensitivity, vocalising innovation, skill and playfulness Mr Al Jarreau is so admired for."
"Many music icons have passed away in the last few years, both musicians and audience alike can all relate to the sadness felt in the passing of heroes and mentors. Al Jarreau's passing moved me immensely. A combination of deep and immense respect, appreciation, family nostalgia and more all culminated to a strong desire to initiate putting a show together in honour of his passing."
"This special tribute will cover a wide spectrum of his artistry and influence including the former mentioned self titled debut, rare tracks from his funk/soul albums in the 70’s through to his commercial crossover success in the 80’s where hits such as ‘Boogie Down’ and of course ‘We’re In This Love Together’ will be performed and celebrated."
"Joined by a stellar Sydney line up consisting of Harry Sutherland-Keyboards, Carl Dewhurst-Guitar, Cameron Undy-Bass, Paul Derricott-Drums and other special guest artists to be announced. It is our honour and joy to be sharing this special event with you!"
"Having only recently returned to Sydney after a three-year hiatus overseas and interstate, I can think of no better way to light the flame of doing shows again in Sydney than this one. Sincerely, I hope you can be a part of this special night of celebration in honour of the spirit, sophistication and joy of this man’s legacy and artistry!"
