Old 505 – Production Submissions 2014 Now Open
The Old 505 curates a varied annual program of theatre work, from playreadings, ‘open-house’ seasons and works in development to full seasons of full length work. We have supported and continue to support both established and emerging artists. For the first time we are calling for submissions for our annual program for 2014, with a closing deadline of 9am Friday 19 July 2013. Expressions of interest from individual artists / companies / collectives are welcome.
How does it work?
The Old 505 Theatre has a set number of dates throughout the year for various programs / initiatives. The existing framework will assist guide which submissions are suitable (in addition to the criteria below). However we will retain some flexibility in programming, so will also be open to alternate uses of the space where it will support a project of high artistic merit. You should also continue to speak with us outside of the annual deadline timeframe if you think you have a project which suits the venue.
The venue works on the “box office split” model, with a small commitment from resident artists to secure the spot (if offered). This means very low overheads for participating artists. However, the venue is licensed for 30 people only, so take this into consideration when submitting.
If we are interested in your submission we may ask for more information, for an opportunity to meet and discuss it further, or may offer you one of the available spots in the season. As the venue supports a range of work, from scripted to devised to works at the beginning of a development process, the submission format will depend on what it is you’re suggesting to us.
At a minimum, send us:
· A summary of the project and the company / collective / individual artist
· Preferred dates and type of opportunity (if known – e.g. ‘open house’ pitch, full season etc)
· For scripted work, a copy of the script
· For devised work, an outline of the concept and the devising process
· Names and brief bios of confirmed participants
Optional submission elements include:
· Reviews of this or other works by same artist/s
· Photos or videos of this or other works by same artist/s
Works selected for the 2014 season will:
· Be of high artistic merit / potential
· Fit one of the venue's existing programs
· Be suited to the venue (if you have not seen the venue before, please make time to do so before you submit something)
All submissions will be assessed by the venue Director (Kerri Glasscock) and Associate Artistic Director (Gareth Boylan). All applicants will be advised during August 2013.
Closing Date: 9am Friday 19 July 2013
Old 505 Theatre
In 2011 we re-opened the doors to the old, much loved 505 warehouse, launching a new independent theatre development space which has been receiving rave reviews.
Currated and run by 505 founder Kerri Glasscock and Associate Artistic Director Gareth Boylan the Old 505 aims to foster close relationships with some of Sydney's most exciting performing arts practitioners by presenting a series of residencies and limited-season productions by invitation. In addition, the venue hosts an ongoing series of workshops and master classes by industry professionals, providing a valuable opportunity for performing artists to access continuing professional development.
