Martinez Akustica Birthday party Concert
We celebrate the long life and musical Career of Victor Martinez Parada on his 66th birthday and 47 years of music, Leader and Father of the Martinez musical Family.
It is said….“Victor Martinez is one of the greatest Avant Garde guitarists ever” Victor, Andro and Dauno are father and sons. Victor, an extremely accomplished composer, teacher and leader in his field, leads the Martinez family.
Born in Chile they all play six string acoustic and electric guitar, bass and also use their instruments as percussion with vocal ‘beat boxing’. Playing in staggering unison and gorgeous harmony, then across and against each other, it is calm then chaotic, beautiful then forceful. The interplay and understanding that flows through them is inspiring, endearing and infectious. They truly captivate their audiences and stretch each other’s ability Anyone who plays a guitar, anyone who aspires to playing guitar, anyone who enjoys listening to music must experience these incredible players. The trio has been performing professionally since 1997 since then they have played a large number of venues around the country and we welcome them back for this extra special birthday concert for Victor Martinez.

“McBride performs superbly in so many contexts that one can never anticipate what kind of musical quest he's going to take in any given situation”. (Los Angeles Times)
Illuminating the jazz world for nearly 25 years, Christian McBride is hailed as a “chameleonic virtuoso” (All About Jazz) and "one of the best jazz bassists in the world" (New York Times).
By 19 he was already working with the likes of Wynton Marsalis, Bobby Watson and Roy Hargrove, and has gone on to perform and record with jazz legends (Freddie Hubbard, Pat Metheny, Chick Corea), pop artists (Sting, Carly Simon) and neo-soul musicians (D'Angelo, Queen Latifah).
In 2012 the Grammy Award-winner also topped both the DownBeat Critics Poll and Jazz Journalists Association Awards.

Friday 31 May - Jimmy Rigg plus Andy Goodridge and Frank Sultana
$10

This larger than life Delta Blues man offers no apologies though his honesty and regret are revealed in his cracking voice and moody melodies. When Jimmy burst onto the sydney scene late last year , the good folk at The Bar at The End of The Wharf were left wondering exactly what hit just them. So much so that they drank more than had ever before been drunk there. A lot more!
So, Who the hell is Jimmy Rigg? He’s a rum swillin’, woman lovin’, straight shootin’ sonuvabitch who’s gonna pull on your heart strings and put a fire in your belly that can only be soothed by grabbing your lover and dancing real close. Jimmy’s assembled a real A-team of blues players and deviants alike (Miles Thomas, Jan Bangma, Bill Burns Brown, James Loughnan and Mike Raper) creating a sound that will have you on your feet and falling in lust with every man and woman in the room. His crow bars will loosen you up and pry you open, without a doubt.
